“I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.” —Lee Maynard.
This month our read aloud chapter book is called How to be Cool in Third Grade by Besty Duffey. I try to read a chapter out loud for the students listen. We talk about what we have read and try to predict what we think will happen next!
It’s not easy to seem cool when the whole class knows you wear superhero underwear and your mom still kisses you goodbye at the bus stop. But Robbie York has a plan. 1) Get rid of the name Robbie. 2) Get jeans. 3)Avoid bullies like Bo Haney. If only it were that simple!
This month we have read two books which talks about filling and dipping into other people's bucket. As a class, the students are working togther to fill our classroom bucket to earn a classroom prize. The students are understanding that kind actions and words can fill someone else's bucket. Students are learning sometimes we can empty or dip into a bucket when we are mean. We are learning that even if we dip into a bucket we can still try and fill it by the end of the day!
Every week students will be picked to do the classroom jobs. Each week the jobs will change. Students who do not have a job will be "off duty". Going forward, I hope to come up with more helpful jobs around the classroom!
Math: we will be working with GoMath worksheets to work with adding and subtracting within 1000. We will be using mental math tips and tricks.
Social Studies: We will learn about the world map and how to label it. This will include labeling a compass to help with directions. We will learn how to read other types of maps and complete activites.
ELA: Reading some texts about apples. We will work with MyView as well. We will be picking out chapter books to read in the classroom.
Health/Science: Apple Unit. Life cylce of an apple. At the end of the month, students and I will take a virtual field trip to an apple farm!
