Hello Kindergarten Families! I am so excited to be working with your children this year! We will have a fun year filled with learning and lots of growth! Below is some information about the kindergarten program.
Reading:
Throughout the school year, we will be working hard each day in our Reader's Workshop to introduce strategies that will help students become readers. We will work on letters, the sounds they make and transition over to identifying many sight words to help us read our leveled books as the year progresses. Our ELA centers are all fun and engaging! Students will be working on many skills such as letters, sight word identification, letter sounds, rhyming, syllable clapping and much more! We also enjoy exploring ELA through sensory play with sand, rice, playdoh and much more. Please read with your child every day. :)
Writing:
We will be working on writing through our writers workshop program each day! Students will practice writing their names, letters and even some sight words. We start our writing process through illustrations and then start adding letters for the sounds we hear.
Math:
We are exploring math hands on with manipluatives and also through the use of the smart board which is interactive. We work in our math centers daily. Each group will work with Mrs. Heinsbergen or Mrs. McLaren. We have an independent group working on math skills such as number formation, counting objects, sorting, patterning, etc. We also have an iPad center where students will be using math programs to further their math skills.
Religion:
We practice the sign of the cross daily through prayer and also have started to dicsuss God's creations. We discuss what we are thankful for that God has given us and make pictures to share with our entire school! We also practice the Hail Mary and Our Father and enjoy saying these prayers often.
