The best way for students to improve their reading and their writing is to
read...A LOT! Students should come to class each day with an independent
reading book. We try to find twenty uninterrupted minutes for reading each
day in school. Students should read an additional twenty minutes at home
each day. Sixth graders should aim to read at least 20 pages each day. We
will work toward this goal throughout the year.
We now have access to Accelerated Reader Online! Based on testing done at the beginning of each quarter, all students have an independent reading
goal. Many more book titles, including recently released titles, have tests
available. This allows students to analyze how well they are understanding
what they are reading. Students should continue to read daily, to update
their reading logs, and to read Accelerated Reader books. If there is a
book students wish to read that is not online, students may continue to
receive credit for the number of pages read.
