This month we will be reading THE NIGHTINGALE, our Unit 6 story. This is a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a Chinese emperor whose greatest treasure is a small nightingale. The children will learn about the letters Ll, Mm and Nn and they will work with the color black throughout this unit. The children will make "X" markings on their activity pages and they will practice identifying first and last sounds in sequence. They will also learn to distinguish between long and short words and they will practice matching facial expressions with feelings. The story books and acitivity pages will be sent home at the end of this unit.
In religion, we will talk about Lent and we will begin to hear stories about the different miracles Jesus performed during his ministry. I am very proud of the children as many of them know most, if not all, the words to "The Glory Be" and the "Hail Mary" prayers.
In math, we will continue to learn about different forms of measurement. The children are really beginning to understand how to mark and "read" a bar graph. We will continue practicing these during February. We also dance to many "brain break" songs that help to practice counting up to 100!
Finally, we will learn about healthy eating habits and how to take care of our teeth. There will be some fun stories, videos and craft activities to go along with this theme.
It is hard to believe that the school year is half over already! The children continue to enjoy the time with their friends and the excitement they bring to school each day is WONDERFUL!!! As always, thank you for your continued support at home. Your children are AMAZING!!!
