Our next story in the HAPPILY EVER AFTER reading series is La Tortuga. La Tortuga is a clever turtle who plays a trick on some children who have captured him. The story takes place in Mexico. The children will learn about the letters Ee and Ff, they will work with the color yellow and they will gain practice drawing circles. They will learn the position words in and out and they will also gain practice discriminating between loud and soft sounds. The storybook and activity pages for this unit will be sent home near the end of the month.
In math, the children will be introduced to the concept "more than" and "less than". This will tie in nicely with various sorting and counting activities that are planned throughout the month. The children will also continue to practice simple ABAB and ABCABC patterns.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving later this month, the children will be able to share some of the things they are thankful for during storytime and and throughout the day. We will read some stories and poems to help remind us that the many "small", everyday things we see at school or at home, and the people we share them with, are all special and we have God to thank for all of these "everyday" things.
The children will also learn about the first Thanksgiving and how the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims learn to plant crops and hunt and fish during their first year in the New World, America. They will also learn about how the Pilgrims traveled on the Mayflower for several weeks before they founds their new home.
This month we will also discover how some animals hibernate during the cold winter months and what they do to prepare for this long sleep. We will also talk about the Water Cycle during November and the children will learn how the temperature in the air decides if the clouds will "drop" rain or snow to the ground.
November promises to be a very busy, fun-filled month!!! Thank you again for sharing your children with us this year. Their excitement when learning new things and being with their friends is a pleasure to see each day. Have a wonderful month!!!
