Because St. Lawrence is a Catholic school, a special dimension enhances the academic curriculum. The child is seen as a person whose integrity rests upon the fulfillment of his or her potential as a child of God. Great care is taken to provide growth in Christian beliefs, values and attitudes throughout the school curriculum on a daily basis.
This year our St. Lawrence teachers will continue to work on designing their units of study to reflect the New York State Common Core Standards. It is essential that St. Lawrence School continually revitalize our curriculum to meet the needs of today’s students.
The New York State Common Core standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. The standards are designed to be ROBUST and RELEVANT to the REAL WORLD, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in our global economy. These studies are all based on New York State Common Core Standards. Curriculum areas include Religion, English, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Computer, Music, Art, Physical Education and Sex Education and AIDS Instruction in grades 5.
These new standards emphasize analytical skills, nonfiction literature and mathematical word problems.
